ISTM
Members with post-travel patient populations who are unable
to participate in systematic surveillance as GeoSentinel
Sites but who are willing to more informally provide leads
and contacts when they encounter
patients having unusual diagnoses can become GeoSentinel
Network Members:
Participation:

An
informal e-mail (or, if desired, completion of a simple
Web-based form) to GeoSentinel upon encountering any patient
with an infection found on a limited list of alarming
diagnoses.

An
informal e-mail for any unusual clinical event at the
Network Members discretion.

 |
Respond
to brief (no more than 3 minutes) periodic e-mail queries
regarding potential outbreaks or trends in travel-related
infections.

has an established record of promoting recognition by
name, in the press, on ProMed, in ISTM NewsShare, and
in public health bulletins, of individuals reporting a
key sentinel event. |

Accelerated
acquisition of Alerts & Advisories on breaking events
from GeoSentinel in advance of notification of the general
ISTM membership. |

Members-only
section of the GeoSentinel Website which will
include:

Compilations
of leads and interesting observations from other
Network Members. |

Regular
Network Reports on collated findings and comparison
of Network Member event reports with the main
GeoSentinel database.
Results of periodic outbreak queries. Network
Members meeting at every ISTM. |

GeoSentinel
allows large numbers of ISTM members to link together to help
each other. Rapid
and global public health responses in the face of possible or
established international outbreaks will be facilitated.
Time input by individual GeoSentinel Network Members
is minimal but collective output and benefit are potentially
great.
