Mycoplasma pneumonia epidemics in Denmark

Denmark is experiencing an epidemic of mycoplasma pneumoniae infection, according to the rise in percentage of positive serological tests in the four months of August to November 1998. In addition to those cases diagnosed serologically, a further significant number of cases have been diagnosed using polymerase chain reaction. Mycoplasma pneumoniae causes respiratory tract infection, including pneumonia, particularly in schoolchildren and young adults.
