ISTM Secretariat

Acting Executive Director: Jodi Metzgar

Jodi MetzgarAt ISTM, Jodi Metzgar supports all Interest and Professional Group Councils and helps put their goals into action by providing strategic and governance support. She helps them liaise with other staff members where appropriate to accomplish their mission and goals.

Jodi also staffs the Continuing Professional Education Committee, the Examination Committee, the Professional Education Committee and the Research and Awards Committee.

Jodi manages the overall scientific program for the CISTMs as well as the North American Review and Update Courses. She also works closely with the CISTM Local Organizing Committee on their projects. She manages the ISTM Webinar program and assists the Executive Director in working with the Executive Board and Leadership Council. Jodi is currently the Project Manager for the GeoSentinel® Project.

Jodi joined ISTM in 2015 as the Managing Director of Projects and was promoted to Deputy Director in 2017. Before coming to ISTM she was employed by the Sherwood Group, where she led two client teams that provided complete staffing and headquarters support to Sherwood client organizations.

Finance Manager: Elena Axelrod

Elena Axelrod Since 2002, Elena has held a variety of roles at ISTM. Currently, she works as the Data & Finance Manager, managing accounts payables and receivables for the society and foundation, maintaining contracts and legal documents, reconciles all transactions, and supports the annual audits. Elena also currently provides data support for GeoSentinel® projects. In her free time, Elena enjoys international travel and spending time with her two grandchildren.

Project Lead: Kayce Maisel

Kayce Maisel Staffs the Digital Communications Committee, actively coordinating changes and troubleshooting back-door, nonvisual issues on the Society websites and membership database, and supports electronic voting processes.  Staff lead for oversight of the migration to a new Society website and new membership portal.  Researches, designs, oversees, populates, and manages Society conference apps; coordinates the accreditation processes for events; manages on-site audio-visual and technical personnel and logistics, and; populates and manages the use of Audience Response Systems (ARS) and digital membership surveys.  Staffs Scientific Program Committees, including those for CISTM, regional, and one-time ISTM conferences, which includes coordinating and supporting scientific program development and speaker management for the CISTMs and IME satellite programs. Also staffs the Professional Education Committee and is responsible for the annual Review Course, development of webinars, online learning programs, and other educational activities, including the integration of digital and distance learning options into the ISTM site and its apps.  Helps to support the South American Task Force and the ISTM Regional Conference to be held in Buenos Aires.

Marketing Coordinator: Whitney Alexander

Whitney Alexander Whitney Alexander has held the position of Marketing Coordinator at ISTM since 2017.

She received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga and graduated in 2000. After graduation, Whitney was awarded a Graduate Assistantship and continued her studies to complete an MBA with a concentration in International Business in 2002. She brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to the society, having worked for both non-profit and for-profit organizations. Whitney is creative and passionate about marketing strategy, leadership and engagement.

Whitney's position coordinates the updating and maintaining the ISTM website, society communications (inclusive of the newsletter, promoting the Journal of Travel Medicine, email blasts and direct mail), updating and maintaining marketing brochures, and ISTM marketing strategy planning and collateral. She also provides support for ISTM activities, sponsorship and brand engagement in addition to representing the society in related meetings and assisting with membership support as needed.

Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee Whitney has spent time living and working in Loire Valley, France, Chicago, Illinois and Napa Valley, California before moving to Atlanta in 2012. She enjoys travel and embraces the opportunity to experience new cultures. In her leisure time Whitney swims, enjoys art, gastronomy and wine appreciation, volunteering and spending time with her family.

Meetings Coordinator: Michelle Clark

Michelle ClarkAs the Meetings Coordinator for ISTM Michelle is a support staff member responsible for activities related to the planning and execution of international congresses, educational meetings, conferences, expositions, Board meetings, committee meetings, GeoSentinel® meetings, the CTH Examination and all other meetings of the Society. Meetings and events range from 10 to 1600 attendees and are held all around the world.

Michelle joined the Secretariat in 2016 and has resided in Atlanta since 1990. She enjoys spending time with her husband Aaron and two teenagers, Carter and Kayla. She also has two dogs: Bandit and Ziva. She enjoys boating, swimming, taking trips to the mountains, traveling, reading, going to the gym and spending time with friends and family. Michelle especially loves watching her children play soccer and volunteering at church.

GeoSentinel Data and Network Coordinator: Hannah Emetulu

Hannah EmetuluHannah is a full-time GeoSentinel Data and Network Coordinator. She helps with data management and quality control. Hannah also performs quarterly data analyses, trains new data personnel at GeoSentinel sites, and answers accessibility issues.

Hannah completed a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Georgia in 2010 and a Master’s in Public Health from Georgia State University in 2012. She has a strong background in data management and clinical research. Hannah has most recently worked as a Senior Research Admin Coordinator at Emory School of Medicine. Membership and Customer Service Coordinator: Michelle Haynes

Michelle Haynes Michelle Haynes brought more than 15 years of customer service experience in the banking, and telecom industry when she came to the ISTM in 2016. Michelle’s role in the society is to provide support and needed information to members and others in the travel medicine community. She processes membership applications, registrations, fulfills orders, and is the first in line for email and phone queries.

GeoSentinel Program Manager: Aisha Rizwan

Aisha Rizwan Aisha Rizwan has been the Program Manager for GeoSentinel since August 2019. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from the Adventist University of Health Sciences in 2013 and a MPH in Public Health Practice from the University of South Florida in 2018. She brings an impressive background in preventative health, project management and clinical research.
