ISTM Secretariat

Executive Director: Diane L. Nickolson

Diane L. Nickolson Joining the Secretariat in 2010, Diane brings more than 20 years of experience in professional societies to ISTM. She has worked with healthcare associations and international societies as both a manager and a consultant throughout her career. Highlights of her career includes more than fourteen years with the American Bar Association as a director in its continuing legal education department developing national continuing legal education courses and products. She served as Deputy Director to an international medical society, where she was responsible for strategic planning, financial budgeting and reporting, marketing and membership activities, development and sponsor relations, international congresses and regional meetings, operations, and its peer-reviewed journal and newsletter. Immediately prior to coming to ISTM, she served as Executive Director of a national optometric association, focusing on strategic planning, accreditation and certification programs, membership and marketing, as well as the typical functions relating to managing an association. Diane has managed staff teams ranging from three to more than 75 people.

Diane has lectured and published in the field of association management, and has been active in the association community through the years. She has lived in the Atlanta area since 2004, and takes pleasure from the temperate weather, nearby mountains and lakes. In her personal time, she appreciates spending time with Robert, their families, and of course Zeus, their beagle. She also enjoys cooking, reading, volunteering, boating, and traveling to explore new cultures, experiences and cuisines.

Deputy Director: Jodi L. Metzgar

Jodi MetzgarAt ISTM, Jodi Metzgar supports all Interest and Professional Group Councils and helps put their goals into action by providing strategic and governance support. She helps them liaise with other staff members where appropriate to accomplish their mission and goals.

Jodi also staffs the Continuing Professional Education Committee, the Examination Committee, the Professional Education Committee and the Research and Awards Committee.

Jodi manages the overall scientific program for the CISTMs as well as the North American Review and Update Courses. She also works closely with the CISTM Local Organizing Committee on their projects. She manages the ISTM Webinar program and assists the Executive Director in working with the Executive Board and Leadership Council. Jodi is currently the Project Manager for the GeoSentinel Project.

Jodi joined ISTM in 2015 as the Managing Director of Projects and was promoted to Deputy Director in 2017. Before coming to ISTM she was employed by the Sherwood Group, where she led two client teams that provided complete staffing and headquarters support to Sherwood client organizations.

Finance Manager: Elena Axelrod

Elena Axelrod Since 2002, Elena has held a variety of roles at ISTM. Currently, she works as the Data & Finance Manager, managing accounts payables and receivables for the society and foundation, maintaining contracts and legal documents, reconciles all transactions, and supports the annual audits. Elena also currently provides data support for GeoSentinel projects. In her free time, Elena enjoys international travel and spending time with her two grandchildren.

Project Lead: Kayce Maisel

Kayce Maisel Kayce Maisel came to the ISTM in 2016 with an association and hospitality background and is currently serving as the Project Lead for ISTM and GeoSentinel. Kayce works with the Scientific Program Committees of ISTM meetings to coordinate speakers, logistics, and ensure the goals of the meeting are met on time and within budget. Kayce supports the GeoSentinel sites for their access and use of the patient record entry portal and serves as the primary staff person for GeoSentinel projects from proposal to publishing, handling communications to the Network, and maintaining policies and procedures. Kayce also acts as staff and advisor for ISTM’s Digital Communications Committee, and provides staff support for the Professional Education and Education Committees. In her free time, Kayce enjoys taking walks, cooking, being at home with her furbabies, and generally spending way too much time on the internet.

Marketing Coordinator: Whitney Alexander

Whitney Alexander Whitney Alexander holds the position as Marketing Coordinator at ISTM and joined the society in 2017.

She studied Marketing at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga and graduated in 2000. She continued her studies and completed her MBA with a focus on International Business in 2002. She brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to the society, having worked for both non-profit and for-profit organizations.

Whitney's position coordinates updating and maintaining the ISTM website, society communications (inclusive of the newsletter, email blasts and direct mail), updating and maintaining marketing brochures, ISTM marketing strategy planning and collateral, provides support for ISTM activities, sponsorship as well as society participation in other meetings, and assist with membership support as needed.

Whitney has resided in the Atlanta area since 2012. She enjoys travel and expanding her knowledge of international cultures, and took delight in recent travels to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Stockholm, Sweden since joining the ISTM team. In her leisure time she enjoys swimming, art, gastronomy, volunteering and spending time in nature and with her family. She and her husband Robert have three children: Owen (14), Laurel Anne (12) and Grayson (5), and their dog Miggy.

Meetings Coordinator: Michelle Clark

Whitney AlexanderAs the Meetings Coordinator for ISTM I am a support staff member responsible for activities related to the planning and execution of international congresses, educational meetings, conferences, expositions, Board meetings, committee meetings, GeoSentinel meetings, the CTH Examination and all other meetings of the Society. Meetings and events can range from 10 to 1600 attendees and are held all around the world.

I became part of the Secretariat in 2016 and came to Atlanta back in 1990. I enjoy spending time with my husband Aaron, and our two teenagers, Carter and Kayla. We also have two dogs, Bandit and Ziva. I like boating, swimming, taking trips to the mountains, traveling, reading, going to the gym and spending time with friends and family. I love watching my children play soccer and enjoy volunteering at our church.

Membership and Customer Service Coordinator: Michelle Haynes

Michelle Haynes Michelle Haynes brought more than 15 years of customer service experience in the banking, and telecom industry when she came to the ISTM in 2016. Michelle’s role in the society is to provide support and needed information to members and others in the travel medicine community. She processes membership applications, registrations, fulfills orders, and is the first in line for email and phone queries.
