New CISTM Programs

Delegate Selected Oral and Poster Awards

This year the CISTM16 delegates will be able to vote for their favorite poster – attendees can vote for their favorites by opening the CISTM16 app, navigating to the "Poster Voting" section, selecting the poster number/title, and rating between one and five stars. The winning poster presenters will be invited to participate in the Poster Pitch session and will receive complimentary full registration to CISTM17 in 2021!

Photography Display and Silent Auction

Photographs reflecting the conference theme taken by photographer Vlad Sokhin [] will be on display at the exposition during the CISTM16. Vlad Sokhin (Russia/Portugal) is a documentary photographer, videographer and multimedia producer. He covers social, cultural, environmental, health and human rights issues around the world, including post-conflict and natural disaster zones. The photographs will be available for purchase through a Silent Auction onsite. CISTM16 attendees will be able to submit their bid for any (or all!) of the pictures that will be printed on canvas and displayed onsite. The attendees with the successful bids will be announced via the app and email on Saturday afternoon, and will be able to purchase and receive their canvas print from the registration desk on Sunday morning, 9 June.

Poster Pitches

Selected poster presenters will be asked to present a 3-minute verbal overview (no slides) of their research at the beginning of the plenary session at 08.45 on Saturday, 8 June. This year the Poster Pitch presenters will be selected by the CISTM16 delegates, so vote on the app for your favorite poster presenters!

Quiz Show Session

A gameshow-style session where the moderator gives the audience answers, and attendees supply the questions! Heavy on audience participation, attendees will be asked to test their knowledge and recall answering a wide range of travel-medicine-specific questions, from beginner to advanced level. This session is concurrent with other sessions.

Special Travel Award

In support of the theme "Travel Medicine in a Changing Climate" we will award the person who travelled the longest distance to Washington DC via a low-carbon-footprint method with a USD 50 Visa gift card.

To enter, post a comment on the Clean Travel Award post in the app:

  1. Open the CISTM16 app
  2. From the home page, select the "Sharing" button
  3. Look for the "Clean Travel Award" conversation channel
  4. Comment with both your method of transport and your distance travelled from your home city to DC.

The contest will be open from 5 June at 17.00 through 8 June at 18.00.

One comment per entrant, all entries will be considered; the winner will receive a 50 USD Visa gift card to be picked up at the registration desk on 9 June between 07.30-13.00.

Student Competition

The CISTM16 Local Organizing Committee has organized a Student and Trainee Case Competition. The top 10 submissions were given complimentary registration for the CISTM and will present their cases on Wednesday, 5 June to a panel of judges. The judges will select the three best oral presentations, and the winners will present their cases during an 08.00 session on Saturday, 8 June. The winners also receive a complimentary two-year membership to ISTM.

Where's the Evidence?

This session will feature invited speakers to present scientific evidence countering commonly held belief(s) or practice(s) in travel medicine. The most compelling topics will be presented in a 90-minute session where attendees will be invited to reimagine their travel practice from the ground up. This session is are concurrent with other sessions.
