Positions Open For Nomination

President-Elect (one seat)

The President-Elect is elected by the ISTM membership and begins a six-year leadership commitment: two years as President-Elect, followed automatically by two years as President and two years as Immediate Past President. Candidates should consider the responsibilities and time commitment across the full six-year term.

Eligibility: An active ISTM member in good standing who has previously served on the Executive Board. The nominee must also satisfy the Society’s geographic rotation and Board-composition requirements.

Estimated time commitment: Approximately one-half to one day per week across the six-year arc, with additional time before Executive Board meetings and the biennial CISTM. The presidential years carry the heaviest workload.

Key responsibilities include:

• Participating as a voting officer in all in-person and virtual Executive Board meetings.
• Representing the President when needed and performing the President’s duties during an absence or incapacity.
• Chairing the Nominating Committee in the year the presidency is assumed.
• Serving as a voting member of the Finance Committee.
• Helping plan future CISTM meetings, including leading the site search for the conference held at the end of the candidate’s presidential term.
• Serving as a liaison to ISTM committees and groups and representing ISTM externally when requested.

How the presidential succession works
Members elect the President-Elect. The successful candidate then advances automatically to President and Immediate Past President; separate nominations are not accepted for those two offices. The President chairs the Executive Board and serves as ISTM’s primary spokesperson. The Immediate Past President provides continuity, institutional knowledge and mentorship during the final two years of the six-year commitment.

Councilor (two seats)

A Councilor is an elected voting member of the Executive Board. Councilors bring professional judgment to decisions involving strategy, governance, education and certification, research and advocacy, membership engagement and global partnerships. Councilors act collectively as members of the Board and do not hold individual authority or a separate portfolio.

Term: Four years. Terms are staggered. A Councilor may not serve consecutive terms but may seek election again after a two-year break in service.

Estimated time commitment: Approximately one-half to one day per month, increasing before Executive Board meetings and the biennial CISTM.

Key responsibilities and expectations include:

• Preparing for, attending and participating actively in all Executive Board meetings as a voting member.
• Serving as a Board liaison to ISTM committees, professional groups or interest groups when asked.
• Contributing ideas and strategic judgment aligned with ISTM’s vision and goals.
• Participating in committees, working groups and task forces as requested.
• Working collaboratively with fellow Board members, the Executive Director and staff, and meeting agreed deadlines.
