TravelMed Forum Best Practices
📌 To start a new discussion thread, click “Create New Topic” when logged in to the Member Portal. State the topic of your question or comment concisely and in the subject line. This will help members respond more appropriately to your posting and make it easier to search the discussions by subject.
📌 When creating a post, include your:
- First name
- Surname
- Professional affiliation(s)
- Country of practice (if not evident from the affiliation line) in the signature block of the posting
📌 Email signatures that include phone numbers and web addresses are perfectly fine to include — as long as they are relevant to travel medicine and not related to a completely distinct personal business.
📌 Search the archives for recent discussions regarding your posting before sending your query. Often a topic has already been discussed.
📌 Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information, and write your reply before the original posting.
Posting Guidelines
Ensure your posts and replies are relevant and focused on professional topics.
✅DO post contributions adhering to the following:
- Discuss pre-travel and post-travel medical cases or general travel health issues.
- Share current and significant information from publications, websites, or other credible sources.
- Announce travel medicine conferences, workshops, and short courses.
- Recommend books, websites, publications, products, or services, and disclose any conflicts of interest is appropriate.
- Request information about Travel Medicine providers in locations not listed in the ISTM Global Clinic Directory.
- These requests should start with “Clinic Needed.” Responses to such postings should be sent to the questioner’s e-mail address only.
Content Guidelines
- Be respectful and avoid conflict: Discussions should encourage knowledge-sharing, not personal attacks or arguments.
- Disclose financial interests: If you are involved in a product or service you recommend, you must disclose your financial interest.
- Avoid personal messages and irrelevant posts:
- Do not send “thank you” or “me too” messages to the entire list; send them directly to the individual instead.
- Do not post certain content: Avoid sending defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal content.
- Do not post slogans, taglines, or political/religious statements: These types of posts are prohibited.
Practical Considerations
- Long messages: If your post is lengthy, include “Long Message” in the subject line or at the beginning of the message to warn recipients.
- Post reproduction: ISTM and other participants have the right to reproduce your postings.
- Administrative requests: To unsubscribe or manage your settings, use the ISTM website or contact [email protected].
