Umrah in Ramadan Potentiates the Spread of Meningococcal DiseaseJanuary 26, 2026In 2025, more than 16 million Muslims performed Umrah, the minor pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the month of Ramadan. Meningococcal disease was reported during the 2024 and 2025 Ramadan months with spread to other countries. The 2026 month commences on 18 February and the ISTM Mass Gathering Interest Group has prepared an advisory for our members highlighting preventative vaccine measures.
